June is National Safety Month

Our health and safety team strives to continually improve the performance of our health, safety, and management programs. We work on the principle of safety first to ensure every staff member goes home to their family safe and healthy every night. With this in mind, we’re highlighting important messages from the National Safety Council (NSC) for National Safety Month. This annual observance is every June and is aimed at helping keep each other safe in the workplace and anyplace.
For more than 25 years, National Safety Month has provided weekly resources to highlight leading causes of preventable injury and death so people can live their fullest lives.
Each week in June, we’ll be highlighting a different safety topic from the NSC internally. We will be going over these topics with our employees and encouraging them to take advantage of NSC’s weekly resources offered on each of these topics.
The topics this year include:
- Week 1 – Musculoskeletal Disorders: Some examples of MSDs include strains, sprains, muscle tears, tendonitis, pinched nerves, back pain, and ruptured discs.
- Week 2 – Workplace Impairment: Mental distress, stress, and fatigue, along with substance abuse can cause different forms of impairment. We’ll provide resources to recognize the signs in all its forms.
- Week 3 – Injury Prevention: We’ll learn about approaches to preventing injuries, including identifying hazards and assessing risks.
- Week 4 – Slips, Trips, and Falls: This week we’ll focus on reducing slips, trips, falls, falls from heights, and how technology can play a role in saving lives.
