As part of the larger $1.9 billion Heavy Oil Upgrade Project at Marathon Oil's Detroit refinery, a specialty consultant hired Atwell team members to assist in the planning and routing of a 29-mile section of pipeline. Atwell team members provided placement and GPS coordinates for project control networks, as well as boundary and topographic surveys, floodplain analysis, hydraulic analysis and permit assistance with state regulatory agencies. Construction is underway with completion anticipated near the end of 2010. The resulting pipeline will connect to Marathon's existing crude oil pipeline to deliver additional supplies of Canadian crude to its Detroit refinery.
